crystals from the Fischbachtal

The melaphyr quarries at the Fischbachtal (geologic age Permian, Oberes Rotliegendes) in Rhineland Palatinate (Germany) are well known for very nice amethyst and smoked quartz geodes and also for good calcite crystals.

Very attractive are the pieces with perfect calcite crystals in combination with quartz, amethyst or smoked quartz. The mineralization at the quarries in the Fischbachtal is not so varied as in other quarries but during the years I'm rock hounding I have found some very nice pieces.

I love the calcite with his wide variety of colours and shapes. Some calcite crystals shine under ultra violet light powerful red or yellow. The colour range is amazing and every geode has another secret inside ready to be opened by a rock hounding hand.
